If you're a dreamer, a wisher, a liar
A hoper, a prayer, a magic-bean buyer
If you're a pretender come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin
Come in...come in...

THURSDAYS CHILDREN...

So, today is THURSDAY'S CHILDREN,  hosted by RHIANN WYNN-NOLET and KRISINA PEREZ. Thursday's Children is a bloghop that is all about posting on what inspires us. Make sure to check it out and we'd love it if you guys would join in!!

So, this week, I'd like to talk about two things. One, is that I have to introduce you guys to someone. I saw him yesterday at the bookstore, fell instantly in love and had to have him. I named him, "Agent Inkblot."
I figure, if he's my agent, I no longer have to worry about all that pesky querying, right???

Plus, I'm positive this is what the physical manifestation of my muse would look like. Note all arms for typing!!
MY MUSE: AGENT INKBLOT aka: INKY

I have decided Inky is my good luck charm and will usher in a new era for me. THIS is my year. I'm going to throw myself into my new WIP, send out a million queries, and things are going to happen. Provided, of course, we don't all get vaporized by aliens, or smashed into by a giant asteroid or something tomorrow....

And, now to my second point of this post. Speaking of muse's--have you ever noticed your muse can talk to you anywhere? Even when you least expect it?

Like, earlier today I was putting up my blogpost for DAVID KING'S Build Me-A Blog Hop. As I was picturing these random items I wanted in a blog banner (a steampunk watch running backwards to represent time-travel, a guitar cause one of my characters plays, a slingshot cause one of my MC's is an awesome shot etc...) Anyway, as I was including these things, the image of a Tarot card just popped into my head.

And I realized, out of nowhere, that my new MC, Liv, is slightly clairvoyant and can read tarot cards. Mind you, before this particular moment I had NO clue that Liv was a seer who read tarot cards. It makes perfect sense, cause she was raised in a traveling circus. Anyway, it was one of those flashes of pure inspiration where you realize that somehow, this new idea is going to be a pivotal part of the story.

This is what Inspiration feels like to me
Do you guys know what I mean? Those split-second ideas that you know are going to change everything? It was one of those moments. VERY cool. I love it when that happens. It's absolutely magical and one of my favorite parts of being a writer.

So, that's my question for you guys... When is the last time you had a flash of inspiration like that? What was it about? A story idea, or a characteristic of a MC or something else? What were you doing when you were hit with the idea? And do any of you have a good luck charm like my inky?

  1. Ah I love those moments. Oddly, I only remember some of them, although I do post almost all of them on my blog.

One I remember happened almost two years ago. I was playing a video game and it made me think of something else and that made me think of something that made one of my stories. :-)

  2. I know exactly what you're talking about. My inspiration hits me in the shower and on the treadmill these days. Scales are so shiny already but so far it works every time. :)

  3. Your muse is adorable -but I think a couple of those arms should be for hugging (esp. if you're planning to hit the querying trenches). Lately my muse has whispered in my ear JUST as I'm falling asleep. I've told her that's incredibly annoying because even though I THINK I'll remember what she said when I wake up, I don't. She used to visit me on my dog walks-but that was with my quiet old dog, the two rambunctious terrier pups apparently scare her. I think this WILL be the year for all Thursday's Children. Can't wait to revel in everyone's happy news. As for tarot cards - love them, they appear in my book FOOLISH.

  4. Looks link Inky is already working hard for you :)

Hmm... I'm thinking now that I need a physical muse! I hear the whisperings of a muse all the time... mostly when I go for walks and let my mind wander. But yeah - I could use an Inky of my own!

A recent flash of inspiration (or coincidence) happened as I was fleshing out the backstory of a character in my MS. This character was going to reveal his origins as a prince — and I realized that the place he would've ruled was actually incorporated into his name already! O_O That was completely unplanned, and it worked out perfectly, lol. Who knew?

    Good luck in 2013!

  5. I had one of those flash of inspirations on the last day of NaNo...which means that now that I'm editing, I have to go back and insert the idea at the correct place in the book. The flash of inspiration was realizing that since magi in my story can read animal's thoughts, pet whisperers should be real. Now the MC watches an ad for a pet whisperer where the woman has an argument with the cat in her lap that doesn't sound like an argument if you're just listening to the woman.

I had the flash of inspiration while talking with someone about how I had an elephant blocking traffic in Manhattan, and how the MC had to tell it to be calm and sit down to prevent the police showing up from trying to shoot it (they thought it was rampaging).

I don't have a good luck charm, my desk is too full of mess for such things.

  7. Hey,

COOL pic for the inspiration and I don't have a lucky charm per se, but I do have to have Pandora on and *that* gives me inspiration ;)

  8. Awww, Inky is absolutely adorable! :) I actually have couple Inkies of my own - I'll post about them next week, so thanks for the idea! And I love the inspiration image - that's the perfect picture to illustrate the feeling!

I get most of my inspiration in the shower which is why I have a waterproof note pad in there. :D But I get flashes from other places, too. One of the biggest, most exciting insights I've ever had occurred while talking to my sister. She said something really random and the proverbial light bulb went off and I started excitedly rambling about it. My sister, being the awesome person she is, actually took notes and handed them over to me when my creative outburst was finished - lol!

  9. I love those little a-ha moments (and I don't mean the 80s Norwegian pop band)! They're part of what makes writing such a unique and wonderful experience. I'm sure this will be your year, too ;-) Have a wonderful holiday, Kristina x
