Favorite Genre Blogfest

So two blog hops in one week. Yay! Here's my entry in the GHOSTLY FLASH FICTION blog hop. :)

But for now...

Favorite Movie Genre:

This one actually threw me. I made a list of some of my favorite movies. Gladiator. The Little Princess. Moulin Rouge. Fight Club. Hmmmm...try to pick a genre out of there. haha. So, after much thought, I finally decided that if I like one certain genre more often than other's it would have to be...(drumroll)

Comedy!
(Since I couldn't find a picture of a bunch of good comedies, I just put some of my faves)

ADDENDUM: Okay, I've been hopping around on the blogfest all day and, aftger seeing some other people's choices I realized I lied. haha. I couldn't, in good conscience, choose comedies as my favorite. They are absolutely tied with animated movies, especially anything of the Disney variety. (Tangled is one of my new obsessions) There's just nothing like a good animated film! Sorry for cheating and adding two genre's of movies, but Alex gave me an impossible choice!!

Favorite Music Genre:

Easy Enough...Indie Rock

Favorite Book Genre:

No contest. YA all the way!!!

Favorite Guilty Pleasure in Music:

Any song by Taylor Swift

So, that's it for me! For anyone nice enough to read this far, this is the third week in the kissing scene contest over at LUV YA. I made it to the top four!! Yay!! If you could take a second to go vote for your favorite scene (and I'll just hope you pick me!) that'd be great!!

So, how about it guys? What are your favorite books, music, movies??

  4. Actually, sometimes you can. haha. I've seen some bad comedies. But, for the most part, they're always fun. And yeah, I gotta admit, I love Taylor.

  5. Comedy is great - did you ever see Kick Ass. I thought that was great. Laughter and big guns... almost perfect :-)

  6. Great choices. I love all of them. I saw Taylor Swift in concert and was a little worried. I'd heard she didn't put on that great of a live show, but it was pretty good. It was a definite production.

It was a long time ago, but I always put mom of five because I'm not going to discount him) I also have a fifth child running around in the form of my two year old grandson who practically lives at my house. haha. He is a little stinker, but he's adorable.

Anyway, it's really nice to meet you!!

    1. Yay for another Tangled fan. :) And Where She Went (plus If I Stay) were amazing books. I cry every time I read them. As for indie rock...haha...I'll try to keep the list down. Mumford and Sons, Elliot Smith, Death Cab, Bright Eyes, Iron & Wine, Christina Perri (Hmmm...she may be more borderline indie? What do you think?) and many more...

  22. 17 Again was so fun. I've only seen Tangled once, but I loved it. I'm a sucker for a good animated film. I wish that the YA market had been so thriving when I was a kid. I love it.

    1. I know. When I was a kid, that genre basically didn't exist. I just love reading about teenagers. I think it's because you never feel emotions quite as intensely as you do in those years. Everything is larger than life. And you have the whole world in front of you, endless possibilities. It's an exciting time to read about. Thanks for stopping by!

  23. Every time I read another blogfest post, I discovered another genre I should have chosen as a favorite. Ya novels are indeed worthy of being a favorite for readers. I've been reading a lot of them and have just started another: Don't Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon.

    1. I was just commenting on this to the person above you. I think the teen years are so much fun to read about, because it's such an amazing time in life that's so full of possibility. When I decided to try my hand at writing, I hadn't even gotten into reading YA, but I naturally gravitated towards writing teen characters. That lead to reading books about teens and I've been hooked ever since. Hope you enjoy your book! :)

  24. I'm a scifi reader, and writer. I like my books scifi, or fantasy too, with a dash of suspense. But then I will read anything about Paris, too.

    1. You're welcome DG. I haven't read a ton of sci-fi, but I've read some fantasy. I guess a lot of the YA stuff I read is urban fantasy as opposed to high fantasy, but it still counts, right?

I did however, recently have an amazing dream about a king and a princess and how the king's right hand man was trying to slay a unicorn (which was against the law, of course). It was all very high-fantasy and I have no idea where it came from but it was SUCH a vivid dream that now I want to write a story about it. :)

      It's nice meeting you!

  25. Hi, Tamara,

I quite agree that Disney animated movies are THE BEST! I had just recently watched Tangled for the first time and I really enjoyed it. There are just too many that beyond awesome to even choose.

I'm with you on y/a ... I am obsessed and even write it. I just completed my first y/a novel and am currently querying it.

    Again, Great to meet you.

    1. So, you're a writer. You're from New York. You love Disney movies and YA books. I think you're my long lost brother. haha.

I already left you a comment on the other post (the contest) but I was asking about your book over there. I guess The Blind Gardener is the one you're currently querying? Good luck!

I had JUST started querying Against the Falling Moons (I'd sent out three) when I decided I needed to re-write the first chapter again. haha. So, putting the brakes on the querying until that's done. Then it's back out into the trenches...

    1. That's funny. I remember dragging my husband to the theater to see "Little Mermaid" (I'm showing my age here). We did not have kids yet, I think we were about twenty. But I made him take me to see it, cause it was the first Disney movie that had been released since I was a kid. We both loved it. haha. Although (being a twenty year old guy) he did embarrass me in the theater when he got a little too into the scene where Ariel and Eric almost kiss and said something inappropriate in a too-loud voice. hehe

  30. I love animated and the classic Disney movies, also! And 'Indie Rock' is such a wide net, but I've heard some amazing self-produced music (although there's also a lot of well, less-than-amazing stuff too). But it's great to live at a time where every aspect of music-making and productions can be entirely in the hands of the artist if the wish (kinda like with us writers, too, if we desire).

Great blog! And thanks for the follow, and right back at'cha!

    1. Hi Chris!

Yeah, I love the freedom technology gives people nowadays. Musicians, film-makers, artists...really any kind of creative medium has been re-born. Although, that being said, I'd still prefer to go the traditional route with an agent and all. But we'll see. At least if that doesn't work, I know I have other choices. :)

  31. That's why I had to pick animated films. When I looked at my list of favorites, that genre dominated.

    1. Right? It's like...I can think of a million bad comedies. Dramas. Actions. But there aren't that many bad animated films. Not the bigger studios anyway. Pixar and Disney have been really consistent with turning out top quality stuff. Dreamworks too (although not as much in my opinion, cause they've had some stuff where I went "meh") But, you gotta love Shrek! Although, truly, I'll always be a Disney girl at heart. :)

  32. Hi Tamara- Thanks for stopping by my site. I don't know why but I too can read horror (like Stephen King) but for the love of God, I CANNOT watch it! I don't like being so scared I have to sleep with the light on. LOL

I loved your choices- Daughter of Smoke and Bone- holy crow I read that book in like three hours. I devoured it! It was amazing.

PS- Some of my fav movies are the ones I took my kids to see. Like "Despicable Me" and "Megamind"- they are both so well-written, fun and hilarious.

    1. haha. My kids just made me sit through the Amityville Horror and at the end I felt all dark and horrible and I was like, "Oh yeah. That was fun."WHY do people like that stuff?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone was amazing. Laini Taylor is an awesome writer. Beautiful prose! I can't wait till the next book.

Oddly enough, I haven't seen either Despicable Me or Megamind. I just haven't gotten to it. Now I'll have to check those out. Thanks!

  43. YA may not be my top fave but I sure do read a lot of it! And I sure did like Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I think it's one of the best books I've read lately - along with The Night Circus.

    1. I actually wasn't huge on Night Circus. I know everyone else loved it, but it felt slow to me. I LOVED the descriptions, which were awe-inspiring. but I never felt like i really got to know the MC's. I'm definitely in the minority though, as it seems most people adored that book.

For me, I thought Daughter of Smoke and Bone was way better than night circus. I just love Laini Taylor's writing. Amazing prose!! Thanks for stopping by! :)
