A hoper, a prayer, a magic-bean buyer
If you're a pretender come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin
Come in...come in...

Critique Contest for GUTGAA'ers

Hi guys,

So, I've been having so much fun with GUTGAA and met so many awesome people that I wanted to give something back. Because of that, I'm offering a first twenty-five pages critique. In case you're wondering why you'd want to be critiqued by me, I ran a website, Chimera Critiques, where critiquing was all we did. We critiqued every genre, so I have experience across the board with that.  I also taught a high-school class on critiquing skills. I've have about thirty articles published in our local paper, (The GA Harbor Sound) and have been published in Woman's World Magazine.

If you want to enter all you have to do is follow my blog and leave a comment on this post!! I'll be announcing the winner on Friday.

In the meantime, if you want, you can check out my Favorite Genre Blogfest entry and my Ghostly Flash-Fiction. I know the Flash Fiction one is still accepting entries, so if you're interested, check out the link in my post.

  3. Well, that's awfully nice of you - I'd love to have you critique TENDRIL. Also I tried to get in touch with you about something I was passing along, if you don't know what I'm talking about go see my blog and look for the yellow sunflower within a recent post (A Nest of Words)

  4. How very awesome of you! :) I'm so happy to now be subscribed to your awesomeness. One question: can the crit be on anything we've written or does it have to be a finished, polished, so-ready-to-be-querried-it-glows type manuscript? :) PS - please don't' critique this post.

    1. haha...I promise not to crit your post. :) The critique can be on whatever you want. WIP's are the things that generally need critiquing the most, right? Very nice to meet you!

  5. Tamara, you're such a sweetheart. What a super awesome thing to do! Now, I'm NOT entering simply because I won a 25 page critique over at Ru's and I don't think it would be fair if I won this one too - gotta share the love - but I just thought I'd drop in again to say your rock. Clearly.

  12. Hi, Tamara,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It's so nice to meet you too! What a terrific giveaway. We can all use a good tweaking on our WIP, that;s for sure.

Like you, I love magic and anything Y/A. My second novel is an Edgy Y/A contemporary. (my first, m/g fantasy ... of course.)

Looking forward to getting to know you better.

    1. Yeah, you too. I was looking around your site and caught the excerpt from The Blind Gardener. It's four in the morning (insomniac) so I need to crash but I liked the beginning. I got to the part where Aiden gets busted following Danny home. I was definitely intrigued. Aiden's voice caught me. He sounds like an asshole, but that's awesome, cause he also sounds real. I want to know why he is the way he is. Is this the one you're querying? Is the query up on GUTGAA? Did you get into the agent pitch? (I'm just full of questions--sorry. haha) If the query is over on GUTGAA, send me the number, I'd love to check it out.

It's nice to meet a guy who writes/loves YA. Especially of the magical variety. I know a ton of girls into it, but not as many guys. My husband likes it, but he's very specific with the books. It has to be fast paced. Lots of action and intrigue. We both really like Cassandra Clare and JK Rowling. But, unlike me, he couldn't get through Maggie Stiefvater's books. Said they were too girly. haha. I LOVE her. I think her prose is beautiful. Anyway, I'm not going to leave you a book in the comment section, so I'll go now. :)

    1. Hi Melissa,

PLEASE don't feel stupid. It's Blogger being stupid. Trust me. haha You are not the first person who has had this problem. I have been trying to fix it, but I finally just added a subscribe to posts/comments button on the right hand side of my blog up top. That way you can at least subscribe, even if you can't see the follow button. Sorry about that and thanks for wanting to follow me!!

I'll make sure to swing by your blog too. :)
